The Lofts At Printers Square are Columbia's first City homes to move into the next Generation of Green Building design and construction.
Aspects of Green Building practices specific to The Lofts At Printers Square:
Sustainable Sites:
- The roof of the building is designed to reduce heat islands to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat
Energy & Atmosphere:
- Design improvements have been made to the building envelope to reduce air infiltration and solar heat gain. This will likely result in lower utility bills for the owners and operating costs for the homeowners' association.
- The mechanical systems being installed exceed the efficiency rating required by the current version of the energy code. This will likely result in lower utility bills for the owners and homeowners' association.
- Introduction of natural daylight, and views, to over 75% of the normally occupied spaces in the building give residents a sense of connection to the outdoors contributing to their comfort and well-being, as well as reducing the amount of time artificial (electric) light must be used, thereby resulting in an energy savings.
- Solar Thermal Water Heating System will likely provide tremendous cost savings to the Homeowner.
Materials & Resources:
- There is space for an on-site recycling program
- Shading devices on south and west sides of the building to prevent excessive heat gain and bright glare into residences
- Upgraded Insulated Low E Glass Windows
- 14 SEER High Efficiency Energy Star HVAC
- The Lofts at Printers Square has selected hardwood floors that are FSC Certified The Forest Stewardship Council Monitors Responsible Forest Harvesting.
